PACKWINE speaker to explore how bottling can adapt to a greener industry

Change comes in many forms and can be spurred on by collective action and, sometimes, a simple deadline.

Laws in the European Union (EU) state that all packaging will have to be reusable or recyclable by 2050, and that all industry mustn’t emit any CO2 by 2050.

Adeline Farrelly is Secretary General of FEVE, the EU Federation for Glass Packaging and will explore how the glass and wine packaging industry is responding to these demands.

“Oftentimes packaging is the target of much criticism when it comes to the environment.  Some of it is justified,” she said.

“But it means that we will all need to step up our sustainability programmes to ensure that we can continue to supply our customers with a fit for purpose packaging that can enhance products without compromising on environmental sustainability.”

Farrelly will explore how recycled materials and circular glass packaging is being utilised to keep up with the environmental expectations set upon the wine packaging industry.

Farrelly has spent over 30 years in Brussels working for various private and institutional organisations including the EU Commission, EU Parliament, Deloitte, and EuropaBio – the EU association for biotechnology industries.

She is Member of the Board of CETIE the European inter-professional organization of customers and producers, as well as Glass Alliance Europe (GAE) and holds the post of GAE Secretary General on a rotating basis.

PACKWINE is now in its second year and is shining a spotlight on how change can be brought into the wine packaging industry through a print and digital forum as well as a trade exhibition, allowing leading suppliers to display their products and services. Design awards will also highlight the year’s best wine packaging.

PACKWINE will feature a number of industry leaders as part of its webinar component, including Neil Scrimgeour, business development manager of Affinity Labs; Paul Baggio, managing director of Della Toffola Pacific; and Rowena Curlewis, CEO of Denomination.

The PACKWINE Forum & Expo will be published in the September 2022 issue of the Australian & New Zealand Grapegrower & Winemaker, the wine industry’s leading publication, while digital content will also be published online.
