2021 The Ancestor

2021 Vintage of a Cabernet/Shiraz blend from McLaren Vale call "The Ancestor". Seven Dials Wines brings out a new wine each year that has a story, the previous wines are The Observer Shiraz from 2021 and The Seer Cabernet from 2020 and 2021. Seven Dials is where Marie and I met in London which lead to a journey to where we are now. Each label has a Dial and a unique Story. The Seer has Clock Faces as the Dial and is was inspired by our eldest Daughter that seemed to have the ability to see into the future and respect the past. The Observer has Compass as the Dial and inspired by our youngest Daughter that loves to travel and see all walks of life. Lastly, The Ancestor has the Telephone Dial and it is about communicating with your Ancestors and Ancestry, the Blend is a classic Claret Blend with a modern vibrant winemaking style.

2021 The Ancestor is a step up in Premiumisation with the Seven Dials Wines. The Best Barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz from the 2021 Vintage were kept to age another 6 months to develop more complexity and to polish the tannins. Moving up a price bracket we wanted The Ancestor to show the reward for patience in the Winery and being able to show more characters from the amazing vineyards.

The challenge was to express the Premiumisation of The Ancestor to the loyal customers that have tasted The Seer and The Observer. To keep the Design inline with the Brand recognition yet set it apart. Metallic Gold for the name of The Ancestor and a darker colour scheme was used to convey heritage and history while tying in the Seven Dials Logo as well as the importance of the Telephone Dials.

Gold Metallic print on a Digital Image and using a Dark Brown with directional highlights to ensure the label did not become to dark. Vintage Telephone Dials in the design and layered telephone cords and script in the background.

The Gold for The Ancestor jumps out and adds a texture to the label. The dark brown has cartography and lettering that draws the consumer in, the details show there is much more to the story is to take the time to delve in. The Ancestor label has the same size and positioning of the Seven Dials logo so immediately is recognisable as a Seven Dials Wine yet the feel is different and I believe sets it apart from the previous wine labels.
